How to use this tool

Choose names you can keep using

Document one naming convention and use it across your team. Differences in case and spelling can fragment reports. The normalisation option lowercases the values you enter and turns whitespace into underscores; switch it off when you need to preserve exact values.

Check the full tracking setup

UTM tags label a link; they do not install analytics or prove that a conversion was tracked. For Google Ads, review auto-tagging and your GA4 link before adding manual tags. Avoid tagging internal site links because campaign tags are intended to identify incoming traffic. Never put personal information in a campaign URL.

A worked example

A campaign named autumn_launch on google with medium cpc adds ?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=autumn_launch to a plain destination URL. Existing query parameters are joined with & instead.

Common questions

What happens to UTM tags already in the URL?

The six UTM fields managed by this builder are replaced with your current inputs. An empty optional field removes its old value. Other parameters and the page anchor are preserved.

Does this install GA4?

No. Your site still needs a correctly configured analytics setup and any required consent handling. Test the finished link and reporting before launching.

Are my links saved?

No. The builder runs in your browser and does not send form values to Draper Digital. Copy or download the result before leaving the page.
